Transformation of Derelict Bingo Hall

Bedminster, in the south side of Bristol, is quickly becoming one of the trendiest areas to live in the city thanks to the recent addition of various fashionable new shops, wine bars and cafés.  The modernisation of the city has received widespread support.  Even TV presenter Mary Portas has spoken out on the issue, giving her solid backing to the gentrification of the south Bristol district.

The most recent in a long list of developments in Bedminster is the conversion of a derelict Gala bingo hall into an energy efficient community of green homes.  The site of the old Gala hall on North Street has been vacant and abandoned for years and is the next ambitious development on the modernisation agenda for south Bristol.

Developer and Property Specialists

Urbis Development is a property specialist in Bedminster and is best known for the work it has done transforming the Robinson Building at East Street from a neglected factory into a prime development of over 100 apartments.

The new project will be carried out using German Passivhaus principles and the funding for the project is being provided by the socially-responsible Bridges Sustainable Property Fund. (Click here for info on playing bingo responsibly)  The team at Urbis will work in very close collaboration with the team at Bridges to ensure the creation of one of the most forward thinking developments in Bristol.  Passivhaus is a German energy standard which minimises any wasted energy in heating and cooling systems for buildings.

The demolition process is set is begin by the end of February 2025 and it is expected that the site will be completely clear by the end of February.  The building work for the 26 sustainable flats will begin in January.

Managing director of Urbis Richard Clarke was quoted saying that Bedminster is an attractive area of the city and Urbis are hoping that this sustainable development effort will provide yet another boost in the sought after south of the city.

Clarke has stated that the development will be completed and ready for tenants to move in late iWinkBingolition and construction will begin as soon as possible.  All of the required planning permission has been granted so work should begin imminently.
